I just got my brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab last Friday, the perfect new toy for the weekend. The device itself is great. Build quality is excellent and I really like the 7” size. My iPad is still great but somehow I like the Samsung Tab better because of the smaller size and weight. Software wise Android is still “a bit” behind iOS and I hope that the next Android releases from Google will close part of the gap regarding smoothness of UI and eye candy. Anyway, I wanted to test our the game playability on the large screen estate of the Tab and tested out quite a few games over the weekend. Here are my summary of the best games I found that I love playing on the 1024×600 resolution screen (it is great, not as good as the Retina but still extremely good). Personally, I love simple games with great value for sporadic gaming, so you won’t find SIMs on my list below.

Being based in the EU at the moment, I finally got my iPad yesterday and have now spent some quality time with it the last 32 hours. First impression has been extremely good even if it did not take long to figure out what the iPad 2.0 will need to provide.
I’m sure that if someone is able to make the tablet PC a viable product category Apple is the company to do it (first). Still, without knowing the intended positioning at Apple they have succeeded to create a device that is perfect for the my-lap-internet-computer-used-in-the coach-in-front-of-the-TV and I-love-to-read-the-morning-newspaper-without-6sqft-of-empty-space-around-me use cases. It is brilliant for that, and I’m glad to see that we can finally start to enjoying a very pleasant digital magazine reading experience.
Anyway, to expand the use cases, I suggest Apple do the following simple improvements.

I just upgraded my HTC Hero Android phone to the new Nexus One (N1) from Google. First impressions are really great, and there are plenty of in depth reviews out there so I won’t cover that part. On the other hand, what I wanted to do was to transfer all my SMS text messages, the call logs and the access points (APNs) from the Hero to my new N1. Unfortunately, Google has upgraded the format of Android’s SMS storage as the Hero is running Android 1.5 while the N1 one is on v.2.1, so just creating a backup on the Hero and restoring the messages on the N1 was not possible without some tweaks. So far, this has been tested only for HTC Hero to Nexus One, but I’m sure other < v.2.0 Android phones can use the same process.

As we all know, Google launched its first smart phone on January 5th, 2010. Luckily for people living in the US, UK, Hong Kong or Singapore, you can order it directly from Google from their web store. For the rest of us, we are either forced to wait for a change in their shipping policy or work our way around this. In a global Internet world, anything is possible. Here is the easy guide how to get the phone to your own doorsteps within a few days, I’m waiting for mine to arrive as I’m writing this.
