First, I misunderstood the update notice for gingerbread and I gave it permission to update my rooted Motorola droid 2. Of course, this un-rooted the phone. Since then, I have downloaded and installed z4root. I made sure I have debug on and I have allowed it to run several times. It runs for about 5 minutes, then it ends back at my download manager screen without rebooting my phone and the phone is not rooted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@Mattias i cant remember if i rebooted before i tried it but i was doing something wrong somewhere. i just tried it again but the apk wouldnt even load, so i tried SuperOneClick v1.9.1 and it worked like a charm, and no scary freezes this time!
i just heard last night that there is an update for milestone 2 so i just have to go and do a backup of all my stuff and im going to give that a try. do you still have your milestone?
its nice to be able to take screenshots now as well.
thanks for your help anyway
